Yule

This is an incredibly brief overview of Yule (winter solstice) that I published in my winter 2016 newsletter.

Yule is also known as the winter solstice. Symbols of the season include holly, ivy, the evergreen, and, of course, the Yule log, which is traditionally of the ash tree. Yule celebrates the rebirth of the sun and is a time for introspection.
Deities celebrated and honored this time of year include all sun gods and mother goddesses. These might be Brigid, Demeter, or Diana, depending on your preference, and Apollo, Ra, or Odin. It’s the optimal time of year to burn incense of pine, cedar, and cinnamon. Work with crystals such as rubies, garnets, and emeralds.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, spell work should include a focus on peace, harmony, and love. And like most major modern holidays, Yule is a time of feasting, so enjoy your favorite foods with all your favorite people.

Solstice affirmation: May the magic of the solstice find light in all that I do and all that I love.

Happy Yule!
